Stress plays a significant role in our fast paced lives. From the foods we eat to the lifestyle we lead, stressors can have many negative effects on the body. Thankfully there are simple proven stress reduction tools that can support the body when it needs it the most.

1. Be Kind & Gentle Towards Yourself

Among your daily tasks and routines, take the time to encourage yourself. Try thinking and speaking positively about yourself. Consider taking some time to take yourself to a movie, go for a massage or simply enjoy a nice lunch by the beach, riverside or on the top of a mountain.

2. Forgiveness – Release The Old, Welcome The New

Letting go of the old is an important step to remaining lighter and brighter in one’s life. To welcome the new we must give ourselves the gift of forgiveness. Forgive ourselves, forgive others and be willing to acknowledge it, let go and move on. 

3. Meditation & Quiet Time

Spend some quiet time every day, at least 20 minutes worth. You can sit down, walk, lie down, whatever your body desires you to do. Start by slowing down, watching the space around us, the sky and birds, the simplicity and uniqueness of every moment. If you have a meditation practice, lean into this.

4. Surround Yourself With Positive Influences

Who we surround ourselves with is often a mirror of how we feel about ourselves. Be sure to surround yourself with kind, caring, positive, uplifting people who understand the concept of self respect. It’s always helpful too if they have a vision for their lives that is aligned with yours, as this often raises one’s energy and personal standards.

5. Don’t Take Anything Personally

Whatever happens around you, don’t take it personally. It is a reflection of others. What other people do is because of you, it is in response to themselves. Be immune to other people’s emotional baggage, allow it to simply slide off you knowing that it has nothing to do with you.

6. Stop Making Assumptions

We make the assumption that everyone sees life the way we do. We assume that others think the way we think, feel the way we feel, judge the way we judge and abuse the way we abuse. It is always better to ask clarifying questions than to make an assumption, because assumptions set us up for suffering.

7. Be Impeccable With Your Word

Speak with integrity, say only what you mean. Avoid using words to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

8. Create a Peaceful Loving Environment

Fill your home with things you like and enjoy, things that bring you peace and happiness – music, candles, scents, flowers, colours, pictures, art and the natural elements. Switch off technology during rest times and create a space of bliss in your home that inspires peace and love for you.

9. Outdoor Earthing or Grounding

Spend as much time as possible outdoors; walk barefoot, on the sand or grass. Grounding helps to regulate the proper energy flow in your body. Breathe deeply once you are outside to expel carbon dioxide from your system. Deep breathing also helps to relax. 

10. Maintain Your Attitude & Positive Outlook on Life

Make sure that you always enjoy what you are doing. De-stress everyday by doing yoga, sitting quietly, listening to calming music, playing with pets and getting absorbed in your favourite activity. Walking is also an excellent form of relaxation. Find a place which is free of traffic and noise where you can simply be.
